Historic Milestone Achieved: JHC OBA UK Registered as a UK Charity

A significant milestone in the history of the Jaffna Hindu College Old Boys Association (UK) has been achieved with the successful registration of the organisation as a UK charity.
The association has been officially registered as:
The JHC Old Boys Association UK
Charity Number: 1214120
Effective from 15 July 2025
This achievement follows a resolution passed by members at the Special General Meeting (SGM) held on 12 May 2024, where approval was granted to restructure the association under UK charity law. Since then, the registration process has been overseen and completed under the direction of the Management Committee. The new charitable constitution has now been adopted as the governing document of the organisation.
The transition from the previous association to the registered charity is currently being managed by the First Trustees, in collaboration with the remaining members of the outgoing committee.
As outlined in the new constitution, all current Trustees and committee members will retire at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM), at which a new Board of Trustees will be elected by the members.
Mr. Chelliah Nakeeran, Chairperson of the First Board of Trustees, extended special recognition to Mr. Elan Umakkanthan, who served as Project Manager for this initiative. Over the course of 18 months, Mr. Umakkanthan led the process with unwavering dedication and the highest level of professionalism. His efforts were instrumental in bringing this long-standing goal to a successful conclusion.
This registration has been hailed as a historic achievement for the association, marking the beginning of a new era of formal governance, enhanced accountability, and strengthened capacity to support charitable projects and our beloved alma mater.
Further details, including the AGM notice and the official constitution, will be shared with members in due course.
